gods and goddesses, are they heroes ?

In the greek old civilizations, gods and goddesses were much included in the everyday life as we know. They often made offerings to the gods to get their protection and forces. Look at the greek plays tragedy, when the main characters are lost or completly helpless, they turn themselves to gods, praying, begging them for help. But what if there were no gods (for people who believe in them), would these characters all fall in despair, what if all humans were atheist, no believing in gods and goddesses ? We would do all on our own, or do nothing ? I think that having gods and goddesses is especially a human thing, at least, we all need some support or help, someone to rely on, to guide us, if not gods, we could say that our family, friends, mentors, or our lover, do that for us, so in a way we may can consider them as heroes as well. We could even say that, humans are in a way, all dependent of someone or something, we are all not almighty, we are not all-knowing from our birth, and throughout our life we always learn new things. Nowadays, being « dependent » just as i said before, is looked down, it's kind of pejorative, in education we tend to always tell others to find solutions on their own « this is your work, not mine », to prove themselves ect. I think this come from the increasing individualistic society that it becomes like this. I have mixed feelings actually for this, in a way i think society and people can be really harsh and that is at that time that we feel alone, without our models/ guides that we absolutly need and then we do serious mistakes or completly give up. In another way, always waiting for help isn't better, it make us lazy, there is also a matter of « deserving that help » behind this as well. I'm from a christian family and i got that education at young age, when growing older i build up my own opinion about gods, religion ect, that i won't reveal, but there is something that always kind of bother me, it's those many people going to church praying god for help every sunday, then they get back at home and talk about the world problems, such as the global warming, or the poverty, but they don't do much to make a change, they don't involve themselves, they just wait for better days to come. Sometimes waiting isn't enough. If gods and goddesses are not there to do their hero job, if other don't do that job, will you do it ? In contrary, is it okay to not do anything ? Being a hero is very much valued, we could say that in a way being ordinary is like being nothing, do we all have to become heroes in order to worth enough in society ? Is it okay to live our own life without inspire, help, guide others, without contributing to the world ?
